Know your audience was the title of my speech last night. The better speaker series Advanced training talk Know your audience from Toastmasters International has FANTASTIC nuggets to help us all. Whether you’re on the phone or one on one or in a group audience setting. Take a listen to my talk and my evaluation last night. Agree? Thoughts? Good question. I know right. After giving over 30 speeches mostly at my local Toastmasters club, it is a privilege to give this talk. The script was a great guide. But, as the 4 types of audience talks, training is probably the most difficult. People do nod off or fall asleep UNLESS you keep it L I V E LY and I N T E R A C T I V E. I did just that. I BEGAN my talk with 3 random individuals and asked them what they ALREADY KNOW about knowing their audience. I then asked the SAME members what they want to learn. I think I set the whole audience of 26 plus up and to be ready and alert about what is to come. I focused on the MOST important snippets of the script and personalized the talk to my style. Talking in a group is not easy for many. If this is the case for you too, feel free to contact your local Toastmasters club. 142 countries and 16,000 clubs worldwide. BTW!!! EVEN if you’re a pro, going to the TALK GYM as I like to call it is a G O O D I D E A too in my humble opinion. Trust this tip or nugget of advice. It won’t even break the bank with their small 6 month dues you make up in a packed monthly magazine, contests organized for you, conferences run for you, you just have to show up, take notes and apply back at your club and or in the outside world of life and business. Try it! Hardly much to lose and a LOT ot gain.
